Having launched bluesky 15 years ago,at the same time as the world’s best known search engine, founders Steve and Donna Brown are still as forward-thinking as their birthday twin and loving every minute as much as the first.

And the similarities don’t end there – Google was created in a garage; bluesky was born in a conservatory – and both our names are now well known terms! Making the leap from corporate to agency life, Steve and Donna launched bluesky in 1998 and, like Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, had a crystal clear vision from the start.

Steve, MD of bluesky explains:
“Having spent several years as a client in the home products market we formed very firm ideas about what we felt represented best in class service, creative and added value from agencies. We took those experiences and created a company that delivers everything we would have wanted in an agency and more – a sort of ‘if Carlsberg did agencies…’ approach (to quote a great ad line!) However much our industry has changed over 15 years,
those founding principles have remained true to this day.”

So in 15 years, which industry changes have had the biggest impact on bluesky?

Donna Brown, Creative Director reflects:
“The dawn of the digital age has definitely had the biggest impact – it’s revolutionised the way we all access information and communicate. With mobile devices fast becoming the ‘first screen’ for consumers it’s changed everything – campaigns can now be multi-channel, enabling us to help clients reach a more targeted audience in much greater numbers, far more quickly. We love how it really stretches our creative thinking too!”

Whilst maximising new technologies,the traditional marketing channels and skills are still in full flow at bluesky such as brochures, for which the company is renowned. B&Q for instance, a long-standing client has relied on bluesky’s specialist expertise in this field to produce their lifestyle printed material for almost 15 years.
